City of Xenia Position Announcements: 

OFFICE AIDE

Up to $20.78/hour, DOQ

The City of Xenia is seeking a detailed-oriented individual for the position of Office Aide. This position will report directly to the City Clerk to manage the efficient functioning of the office. The work schedule is flexible and negotiable up to 25 hours per two-week pay period. Incumbent must be available to work three to five evenings a month to attend City Board and Commission meetings. Evening meetings are held approximately 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and include operating recording equipment, conducting roll calls, and taking meeting notes. Following each meeting, listening to the audio recording and conveying it into clear, concise, and professional minutes that correctly reflect the substance of the discussions within targeted turn-around times.

Other in-office responsibilities include, but are not limited to, agenda packet publication, mailing of public hearing notices, records retention, typing of meeting minutes, proofreading documents, website and/or government channel updates, and maintaining official public postings. The position will also serve as a backup to the City Clerk in attending City Council, Civil Service Commission, and Charter Review Commission meetings. 

The goal of this position is to work as an understudy to the City Clerk and learn all aspects of the City Clerk position. Applicants interested in advancing to full-time and/or promotional opportunities are encouraged to apply.

Minimum requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Excellent writing skills including correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Experience serving in a minute-taking role, professionally or on a volunteer basis. Proficient with Microsoft Word and knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and other Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. The ability to type a minimum of 60 wpm. A typing test and/or Microsoft Word test may be required upon application. A completed writing exercise will be required for all applicants.

FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

The City of Xenia Fire Division is accepting non-certified and certified lateral transfer applications for Firefighter/Paramedic. Application packets may be submitted either in person at 107 E. Firefighter/Paramedic Application

The Fire Division operates on a California Swing schedule with firefighters working 24 hours, every other day, for five days followed by 96 hours off. 

Certified Lateral Transfer Applicants

  • Currently holds Ohio Firefighter Level II and Paramedic Certifications
  • Must have prior experience working as a Firefighter/Paramedic
  • Starting pay will be based on prior experience
  • Certified Firefighter/ Paramedic - $60,443.70 to $77,758.78, annually
  • $5,000 Sign-On Bonus – Lateral Only! 

Non-Certified Applicants

  • Do not hold both Ohio Firefighter Level II and Paramedic Certifications
  • City pays for education and training to obtain required certifications
  • Must be 18 years old
  • EMT-P Certification only starts at $58,443.70 annually
  • Fire Certification only starts at $56,443.70 annually
  • Certifications (Fire or Paramedic) starts at $54,443.70 annually

  • Do not hold Ohio Peace Officers Training Certificate 
  • City pay for education and training to obtain required certification
  • Must be 21 years old
  • No certification starts at $28.02, hourly
